There was a get-together last night with all the SLO people who have moved/are moving to Fresno...That's me, Sean, Myles, Kim, and David. Plus some of my FSU friends came...Mike, Ryne, Taylor, Mandi, and Matt. There was meat, beer, and good times. Ellen = teh suck for not coming.

I was leaving a grocery store in a Fresno-like city with my friend Ellen. We each had a couple plastic bags filled and were dressed as though in our Sunday best. A man crossed my field of vision...something was wrong with him, like he was either mentally deficient or crazy or both. He was wearing a t-shirt and jeans and had raggedy brown hair that grew to just below his ears. He went toward a house across the street while I watched.

Suddenly he became angry that I was watching him and he started to chase us. We ran with the groceries across the street...Ellen almost got hit by a white chevy pick-up truck, one of those humongous ones. The setting ceased to be a city and instead we were running toward my parents' house (which is in the foothills). The man was close behind us, looking extra crazy. Fortunately, we reached the house first. My sister was sitting on the couch watching TV. As I slammed and locked the front doors (there was an extra one for some reason) I yelled at her and Ellen to close and lock the other doors and windows.

The man was pounding on and putting his shoulder into the door. It shook and bent like it was only a piece of plywood, and the lock almost failed. I told my sister to call the cops, and the man went and tried to hide. He went up a tree, but wasn't very stealthy. I could always tell where he was.

For some reason I went outside again. The man was lying on the ground. It must have been fall because there were dead oak leaves everywhere. He was writhing as if in pain, he said that God was going to change him...he was going to die and come back in a different form. I felt bad for him at this point because he was in pain, but there wasn't really much I could do about it, so I went back inside. I was wondering where the heck the cops were. Crazy dude dying in my front yard.

My parents were coming home dressed for a night on the town. They were on the front sidewalk that passes in front of our big living-room window. The man stopped them. His skin had turned albino white, hair to black, clothing to a black suit. He slashed at my parents. There was lots of blood. I was beating on the window trying to get them to come inside but they just stood there and bled, it was as if they were mesmerized by the man in the suit. Finally a cop showed up and shot at the man, but he was impervious to bullets. He killed the cop as easily as snapping his fingers.

I woke up before my parents died. It felt like there was a weight on my chest, and my whole body was sore...still is. I think my dream was the birth of the anti-christ.

Tonight I played in a concert put on by the organization Orpheus. We had rehearsals yesterday and Sunday (yes, Easter Sunday but that's OK because I'm a heathen) and did the concert tonight. It was a beautiful program, lots of guitar, some lute, some soprano sax, and a chamber orchestra. Drs. Durst and Whitehead played a transcription of Piazzolla's L'histoire du Tango which was long but fun, then the orchestra came on for Vivaldi's Concerto in D Major in which Dr. Whitehead played lute...also there was harpsichord which was charming. I didn't play anything in the first half of the concert, so I got to be in the audience for those two pieces. I was backstage for Mendes' Viva Villa II, then onstage for the Brouwer Concerto Elegiaco, which I really enjoyed.

It was tough working out instrument use scheduling and moving with all the other rehearsals and stuff that have been going on lately, but everything went as well as it could have.

I actually practiced some stuff for my lessons today...got in a good three something hours, which is good for how busy today was.

My cat is happy I'm home.

So far this week I have:

Cooked tasty dinners including broiled pork chops with dijon-honey-mint baby greens, fried chicken with homemade honey mustard sauce, baked fish with herbed baby red potatoes...I love cooking...wish I had more time to spend doing that.

Done my taxes. Refund ~$500 or so. Maybe I'll use it to buy a bicycle.

Spent a day with my mom.

Spent a day with my sister.

Practiced.

Cleaned the percussion studio.

Speaking of cleaning, to do so properly I must borrow my parents' vacuum. It is the most fabulousest vacuum ever. It's a bissell lift-off bagless in candy-apple red. I love the bagless deal...it's neat to see how much dirt you can suck out of one room, plus the hepa filter is good for lungs. Also, the whole lift off canister thing is great for going around the edges of things. Very spiffy. Maybe I'll use my tax return to buy a candy-apple red bissell lift-off bagless.

I've been playing a buttload of Pikmin 2 on gamecube. I would be playing it right now, but I thought it would be healthier to get away from it for awhile tonight before bed.

Speaking of bed, I should be going there soon...too bad I'm not tired. Blarg!

Still need to start that theory assignment/finish that other assignment.

I love spring break!

Mar. 18th, 2006 @ 06:59 pm Reno: part deux
I'm so: exhausted
feelin' the beat with: TV
This week's trip to Reno was much more enjoyable than the last one, however my body is all thrashed from binge drinking, fast food, and secondhand smoke. I won $20 from $0.75. I spent some time with some people who I like/want to get to know better. I have one souvenir...a bong-shaped margarita holding device from Cal Neva.

The first night was boring, but playing in the snow on the way in was fun.

The second night was better...more snowplay that day too. We got back to the hotel around 2 in the afternoon, watched Tombstone (bitch!), and drank beer all afternoon. Awfulawful's at The Nugget for dinner (thanks Ryan!) I don't remember what else happened that night, I think because my memory is bad, not because I was wasted.

I walked out of a restaurant without paying for the first time ever. It was exhilirating. We (Ryne, Ashlea, and I) took a taxi to Sushi Club, which has some really good sushi on their all-you-can-eat dinner menu. (Our first cab driver 'Blake' was a total cool guygot.) We ordered and got our first round o' fish and a couple of misos. We ate, we drank, we quickly ran out of food and drink. We waited...and waited...and waited. They finally refilled our water and took the next order. After that we waited some more. Around the 30 minute mark, I started getting jittery and hella pissed. Our crappy waitress was serving other tables in a similarly snail-like manner, and we felt quite offended that she hadn't at least brought our damn sake. At about 40 minutes, I got up and led the revolt out the door and down the street. It was amazing, but Ryne was still hungry. After a quick (creepy) stop at a St. Patty's packed Irish pub we hit Cal Neva for 2 tacos and a draft for $1.50, a hotdog and a draft for $1.50, picked up the margarita bongs and headed back to top o' the ghetto Holiday Inn.

After that there was a lot of somersaulting, crack ice, dry-humping orgy-like fun. It must have been around 2 in the morning when I did my usual "go be a depressed loner drunk" routine. Exploration revealed an empty banquet room on the 14th floor with the most beautiful view of Reno I've seen to date...it must just look better at night.

Sean lives in Fresno now...that's new and unusual.

Oh yeah, photos of the trip are available here.

So we just got back from Reno and the WAC Tournament about an hour ago. The trip sucked because our team lost and we were only in Reno for a night (not that I really wanted to be there in the first place, but once you get somewhere, it's nice to stay awhile). Also, Frank dropped his phone in the snow when we stopped to play. I hope he gets that worked out soon because I need to call him! The trip was fun because I got to know a couple of people whose company I enjoy a little bit better than I knew them before...and we got to eat hella sushi at Sushi Club.

The Fresno State cheerleaders need to learn more tunes from our book than just the ghetto pep band ditties that everybody plays over and over. We need a dance team.

Shoot.

Hopefully Wind Ensemble tour (also to Reno...next week) will be more fun.

Working the CBDA All State Honor Band last weekend was pretty great. I was on Team Hill with Kathi and Frank. We managed the Symphonic Band, which is just a step under the top group (Wind Symphony). Anyway, I thought we had the best conductor. Dr. Hill from ASU was just fabulous...the Symphonic Band got two standing ovations during their portion of the concert.

Other highlights of the weekend:

Tons of rehearsal
Tons of running around
Dinner with Team Hill at Livingstone's
Staying up late at the bar
Staying up late with Jose from the Boston Brass
Hearing the Boston Brass in concert (awesome)
Helping Joanne with a timpani part for concert band and hearing her play it OK at the concert

It hasn't gone away yet. In fact, it is hella worse because on the 29th I boarded that plane to Memphis and Liberty Bowl 2005 with the CSUF Marching Band. I am glad I went, just wish I hadn't been so sick the whole time. By the time our plane rolled back in to FYI I had no voice and serious blockage in my right ear. I'm spending my new year choking on phlegm and knocking back NyQuil.

Sarah's Liberty Bowl Trip Highlights

The Hotel - Marriot, good room service, cozy beds, high tension power lines, false alarm emergency at 6:05 am.

The Parade - Not rainy, short, horse filled, good times.

Beale Street - Good Ribs! Lots of beer, Boll Weevils, run of the mill mall, saxination at the bar (go Pete!), nobody mugged us, good times.

The Pre-Game - Questionable free breakfast that ended up tasting OK, saxination again, CSUF band rocked the band off.

The Game - Started off OK, went downhill from there...Pinegar is getting to be reliable at throwing interceptions...GO BAND!

The Voyage Home - Dinner a la Rite Aid: Tostitos, cheez dip, Ben and Jerry's Double Fudge Chunk (or something), purple Gatorade, NyQuil, Naproxen. (Blacked out for a while on the bus/plane) Dinner #2 (on plane): ham and processed cheese food crossianwich, cookie. Dinner #3 (finally at home): tea and chicken soup.

Plans for today - stayin' alive, finishing West Wing season 5 on DVD, watching L&O marathons on various channels, getting well I hope.

I just want to be able to hear out of my right ear again.

I'm so: cheerful
Ok, so Christmas was good. Family, food, egg nog. We ate at P.F. Changs for dad's b-day (Christmas Eve) dinner. It was pretty good. They screwed up and brought us a bunch of extra food that we didn't have to pay for, and dad got an exquisite piece of cheesecake for his free birthday dessert. Last night we had prime rib...it was tasty. Tonight it's honey-baked ham and my aunt and cousin are coming. Sean will be here too for dinner, then we finally get a couple of days alone together before I take off to Memphis (Fresno State's bowl game...I'm going with the band).

Mom has a tendency to go overboard on the giftage. I had mentioned that I needed some more Fresno State garb so she got me two T-shirts, a sweatshirt, slippers, and a scarf/glove set all with the FSU logo stuff. It is pretty sweet...I can wear it all to Memphis and be my own walking pep rally. I also got a Grover tambourine, Alan Abel triangle, two sets of four Malletech mallets, lavender soap/shampoo/conditioner/body wash, jewelry from my sister, gift certificates to winco, the mall, and starbucks, a sweater, a candle, and an ornament from Sean's parents...a mini DVD player...and socks.

I gave the dog a bath and a haircut so he's totally cute now. Also, I seem to have caught a bug from the fam...throat hurting, pounding headache. I hope it's gone in time for the trip.

So I actually did the math on exactly how many cookies I baked over the weekend while I was home. I'm figuring at least about 30 dozen. That is a buttload of cookies.

I am still recovering, I think.

Let's back the truck up a minute.

Ok.

Finals were last week. I guess I did pretty well (4.0). The main reason I went home (besides to bake cookies) was for one of those ever so rare (at least for me) paying gigs. It was kind of a trip down memory lane because the concert was at Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church in Oakhurst. We used to do concerts there back in the day when I was in high school up there. Plus, my piano teacher from back then was directing the music. It wasn't the greatest ensemble, but I had a pretty good time. I rented instruments from Fresno State...I had a 4 1/3 octave marimba, a set of orchestra bells, 4 tubular chimes + stand, a snare drum, a tambourine, a suspended cymbal and two bags of mallets and "toys" all in my Hyundai Accent. Once everything was loaded my car rode like three inches closer to the ground. The bulk was the marimba of course, but I'm glad I took it because everyone loved it. I hope to put together a solo concert up there some day. Anyway, the SVPC program had me busy on Saturday from about 10 until 5 and Sunday from 7 til 2 ish. The rest of my time was spent baking.

What with all the loading, unloading, loading, unloading, and cookie making, my right wrist now feels like it is going to explode. My hands don't look swollen, but they feel gross and stiff. This is not a nice feeling.

At least I don't have jury duty.
